This visualization tool is an insight into a Centre for Disease Control (CDC) 2020 National Youth Tobacco Report, an annual survey targeted at U.S. youths aged 9 to 19+ years old. The tool explores and highlights factors that lead youths into engaging into tobacco.
Is consuming tobacco a decision that is influenced by members of your household? At what age is someone most likely to start consuming tobacco? Here, the chart shows a distribution of youths' start age of tobacco consumption, types of tobacco consumption, and whether or not they have tobacco users in their household.
What has led youths to consume tobacco? Does being exposed to social media, ads in both the physical and digital plane, and being around your peers at school have an influence in youths' decision to consume tobacco? Are these factors intersectional? The chart below illustrates how external factors affect different youth groups.
